Integrative health and wellness is about focusing on the whole person as it relates to physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual and environmental. Instead of managing symptoms, we work on getting to the root of the problem by supporting our body’s natural healing processes.
While we understand that medications support health, particularly compound medications that are actually personalized for the patient, we look at other ways to assist in our health. Treatments to consider include yoga, meditation, nutrition, exercise, herbal medicines, social activities, lifestyle, living arrangements, and so much more. Understanding all this, we believe in tailoring any treatment to the individual needs of patients.
One form of treatment for mental health that can be an option as a supplement to other therapies is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy, that is a good option for many, as it is non-invasive and considered to be safe. It uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in specific areas of the brain that are involved in mood regulation. These pulses create tiny electrical currents that activate neurons, modulating brain activity and helping to promote neuroplasticity which is the brain’s ability to adapt to change. This can help depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and certain migraines. There are other mental benefits that can be felt as well, such as anxiety, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, and more.
Of note, it has been found in recent years, that D-Cycloserine (DCS), that has in the past been used as an antibiotic to treat tuberculosis, has been utilized alongside TMS to enhance the effects of TMS.
We recommend speaking with your doctor if you have any interest in seeking psychiatric treatment and want to learn more about TMS. If you need to be paired with a psychiatrist, you can contact us as well for a recommendation. There are many ways to improve our health both mentally and physically. The best thing we can do is talk with mental health professionals, have the support of our family and friends, do our own research and build our own team to get us on the right track.
